Snežana Skoko exhibited her art work named “Needle on Paper” at Singidunum Gallery in Belgrade in 1994. The artist was attempting to create a video record of the show, using an old Russian camera, on the last day of the exhibition. A group of young people* walked into the gallery, curious to see the exhibition recommended by their friend Dragan Protic. Meeting of the spectators and the artist became a minor insignificantly - meaningless action which was also recorded by the camera.
The artist has based her new project SPACE IS NOT BLOOD on this very video material, and the exhibition will be conducted at the same space - Singidunum Gallery in Belgrade.
“I want to create an exhibition about the gallery space. I am using characters from my documentary so I can create visual plot/fabula in order to emphasize the space itself. The Space gets the leading role in this exhibit; the Characters represent the subject matter while the Time undertakes a role of the space where action takes place. The video recording has expanded significance of the space into the sphere of real/unreal time.”
There is a place, very intimate and important to the author, opening up where art and everyday life coincide.
