B-92 radio stories of This one, made without any help of The Other One

Geodesy

Good evening, my name is This One. The Other One apologized, he will come some other time.
Tonight I will tell you a story about Darko, the lad from Belgrade.
Darko is a geodesy expert. "Well, that's nothing in particular" - you would probably say. But Darko has an extraordinary way of using his skills.

the planimetre

Few years ago, Darko was inspired by those earthquakes, and he made a calculation: in which order the stuff in his house would fall down in case of an earthquake stronger than 8 degrees of Richter's scale.
First thing that would break, says Darko, would be a front poles at the entrance to the house.

An entrance to the house
Would be the first thing to break.

The other stuff would follow: parts of wooden constructions, a wall between the bedroom and the living room, than some thicker walls toward the bathroom and the dining room, and, at last, electric and water installations, and central parts of armed concrete.

With a blast, into the pieces,
a fireplace would break.
For that fireplace, his beloved father
had a hard way to take.

Then, the big fire would start, and, as Darko says, surrounding buildings and a few cars would burn as well.

And everything around
would smoke for a long time.

And while smoke is all around his neghbourhood, let us mention that Darko will have a chance to apply his knowledge as a member of Geodetic units inside artillery of Serbian and Montenegrin armed foerces. Which is great, indeed, because captain Džmuljoćakić and major Kićić will certainly appreciate his calculations about breaking of barracks and other objects.
As an homage to Darko, tonight we sing an Ode on Geodesy, composed by Gianni Buggini. A text lists typical geodesy tools.

the micrometric screw

Geodesia, geodesia,
Bella scientia.

La tavoletta da disegno, il piombino, il martello.
Il planimetro, la squadretta, il treppiede, la cartella.
Il compasso col dispositivo d'arresto.
Il balaustrino micrometrico.

Geodesia, geodesia,
Bella scientia.
